The jain religion and Jainism

The founder and first Tirthankar of jain religion was Rishavdev.



Tarthakar: "Those who attain self-knowledge through their own form and those who create the tartha that helps them cross the ocean of the world are called Tirthakar."

Jain religion: Parshvanath (Rauwen)

Parshvanath was the Tirthankar of Jainism and he attained enlightenment at Sammed Shikhar in Jharkhand.

After imparting knowledge, he told 4 rules which were called Chaturanaya Dharma: -

1) Do not commit violence

2) always tell the truth

3) don't steal

4) Do not Own properties 

Parshvanath was born around 250 years before Mahavira Swami.

Mahavir Swami:

Mahaveeraya Swami, the 24th and last Tirthankara of Jainism, he said to be the real founder of Jainism.

Mahavir Swami was born in kundagram (Vaishali) in 540 BC

Mahavir Swami's father was from kundagram .

Mahavir Swami ji's childhood name was Vardhman.

::spiritual life :

Mahavir Swami, after the death of his parents at the age of 30, took permission from his elder brother Nandi Vardhan and adopted the life of an ascetic.

After 12 years of rigorous penance, Mahavira Swami attained enlightenment while meditating under a Sal tree on the banks of the river Runupalika and the attainment of enlightenment was called "Kaivalyu".

From this time onwards Mahavir Swami came to be known as Ahet (Pushya), Nirgranth (free from bondages), Pin (Visveta).

Mahavir Swami also preached in Prakrit language. He gave his first sermon in Rajgir and his last sermon in Palpuri. The first monk of Mahavir Swami was his son-in-law Jamali.

After attaining enlightenment, Mahavir Swami told all the rules of Panchayan Dharma--

1). Do not commit violence.

2) Speaking the truth

3) don't steal

4) Keeping property

5) Celibacy

Mahavir Swami gave chirals:

॥ Right view, right knowledge, 9) right time

In Baan religion there is no belief in God but there is belief in soul.

That is why Mahavir Swami opposed idol worship and rituals.

Mahavir Swami believed in rebirth and said that Jhalya is the biggest reason for rebirth.

Mahavira Swami died at the age of 12 (Nivan, 1) in 468 BC in Pavapuri, Bihar state.

During Mauryan period there was a severe famine of 12 years. Due to this reason Bhaddhwad along with his Chumadruguth Mauryan followers went to Vriksha Bhas in Kantik and along with them Gauriya also left who gave up his life by "Samlechana" method in Shravanabelagola of Kantik.

Major Jain Temples

1)Mathura was the main centre of Jainism during the Mauryan period. Mathura art is related to Jainism.

2)The Chamund rulers of Kuntik had the idol of Vishal Bahuvali (the idol of Gomatetar) built at Shravanavelgota.

3)In Madhya Pradesh, the Chandela rulers constructed Jain temples in Khajuraho.

4)The famous Jain temple of Dilwara is located in Gaur, Babu in Rajasthan.
