1-Year UPSC Study Plan (Month-Wise)👊👊


Month 1–2: Foundation Building

Goal: Understand the exam pattern, syllabus & start with NCERTs

What to study:

  • Polity: Class 9–12 NCERT + Start Laxmikant

  • History: NCERTs 6–12 (Ancient to Modern)

  • Geography: NCERTs 6–12 + Map practice

  • Economics: Class 9–12 NCERTs + Basic concepts

  • Science & Tech: NCERTs Class 6–10

  • Environment: Class 12 Biology + Shankar IAS (optional)

  • Current Affairs: Start The Hindu / Indian Express + Monthly Magazine (like Vision IAS)

Tasks:

  • Read and revise NCERTs

  • Make short notes

  • Watch UPSC orientation videos (Unacademy, StudyIQ, Drishti IAS, etc.)


Month 3–5: Standard Books + Optional Subject

GS Subjects:

  • Polity: Complete Laxmikant

  • Modern History: Spectrum

  • Geography: GC Leong + NCERT revision

  • Economy: Ramesh Singh or Mrunal Notes

  • Environment: Shankar IAS

  • Art & Culture: Nitin Singhania

Optional Subject:

  • Select your optional (e.g., Geography, History, PSIR, Sociology)

  • Start with one good book & syllabus analysis

  • Daily 1–2 hrs for optional

Tasks:

  • Start solving PYQs (Last 10 years)

  • Monthly current affairs revision

  • Begin answer writing once a week


Month 6–8: Prelims Focus + CSAT

Goal: Strong Prelims practice + Current Affairs focus

Subjects:

  • Revise all GS subjects

  • Start solving mock tests (1 per week → 2 per week)

  • Practice CSAT – comprehension, maths, reasoning

  • Continue current affairs (monthly magazine + daily notes)

Tasks:

  • Join a Prelims Test Series (Vision, ForumIAS, etc.)

  • Practice previous year CSAT questions

  • Do daily MCQs (30–50 questions)

  • 2 hours/week answer writing


Month 9–10: Mains-Oriented Study

Focus on Mains Papers:

  • GS 1: History, Geography, Society

  • GS 2: Polity, Governance, IR

  • GS 3: Economy, Environment, Security, Tech

  • GS 4: Ethics (Start with Lexicon)

Tasks:

  • Write 2 answers per day (topic-wise)

  • Essay writing practice (weekly)

  • Revise optional subject

  • Focus on value-added materials (schemes, data, quotes)


Month 11: Prelims Revision + Mock Drills

Goal: Final touch for Prelims

  • Revise all GS topics thoroughly

  • Revise current affairs of last 12 months

  • Daily mock tests (1 GS + 1 CSAT)

  • Analyze mistakes & improve accuracy


Month 12: Mains Preparation After Prelims

Assume Prelims is done — now 3 months for Mains (if you clear it):

  • Full syllabus revision for GS, Optional

  • Mock test practice for each paper

  • Focus on Essay & Ethics (case studies)

  • Continue current affairs (editorials, schemes)


General Tips:

  • Make Notes in digital or notebook format

  • Revision is Key – at least 2 revisions before exams

  • Consistency > Intelligence. Study daily.

  • Answer Writing – start slow but build speed & quality

  • Mock Tests – don’t skip them; they improve rank
